It seems very popular to complain about trails getting dumbed down these days. However, after spending most of the year on a 90mm XC bike, and then getting back on a 150mm bike, I can see just how much our bikes are to blame. Moral of the story: if you want a more challenging ride you can start by forgoing all that trail numbing suspension and go minimal or even a hard tail. It certainly keeps you on your toes on a trail that feels butter smooth on a bigger bike. Myself, I’m loving mashing through the rocks and roots again with more squish under me. I also don’t have an affinity to any particular style of trail, I’m just loving anything that’s going down a hill.
